Justyce is yet another black boy surrounded by tons of white teens who are rock-solid in their believe that black people gained complete equality to white people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When after a party he is trying to get his ex-girlfriend back home safe because she is beyond drunk, he ends up being arrested, having to sit in handcuffs for hours, because a police officer jumped to conclusion, when he saw Justyce making the girl climb into the backseat of her car. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justyce starts writing letters to Martin Luther King Jr, explaning his having to deal with racist jokes and comments as well as prejudice, similtaneously he follows the media’s reports of jung boys so similar to himself being shot and murdered by the police. Until he and his best friend end up in an argument with a cop who ends up shooting Manny to death it is more of a thing of sympathy, but suddenly he is the one attacked by the media and has to go to curt to fight for his best friend’s judtice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This book was part of my tbr list for sooo long! Ever since I read „The Hate U Give“ and soon after saw Angie Thomas recommending „Dear Martin“ I could not wait to read it! Well… it’s been like four years now and finally I got to read it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First of all: I really liked the book! I liked reading it, I liked how it is written, I liked how it addressed such an important issue. But it was also hard to read at times. I knew what as coming, but still it caught me so off-guard that I was lying there sobbing while pressing the book to my chest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think that books like this one are really important because many of us white people do not even realise how piveleged we are. It’s a great way to understand what having to face racism every single day is like, because it is a weight we are lucky enough not to have on our own shoulders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
