Murder On The Christmas Express

Roz Parker, a former police officer, takes the sleeper train from London to Scotland to be with her daughter and newborn granddaughter for Christmas. Due to the weather the train is already delayed when the journey finally begins and getting to Scotland as soon as possible is all Roz wants.

To make the journey as convenient as possible, the passengers decide to start a quiz. At some point late in the late, Roz decides to go to her cabin and get some sleep, being to exhausted from worrying about her daughter to stay up any longer.

Then though the train derails and shortly after the dead body of Meg, the most famous one of the passengers is found. It seems as if she was murdered. Roz, following her instincts, starts to investigate. Being stuck in the middle of nowhere, with the murderer still being among them, Roz has to hurry up to prevent another murder.

This book was a lot better than I hoped for it to be! It was thrilling all the way through! I think me staying up until 2.15 am to finish reading the book illustrates that very well.

I constantly thought about who might be the murderer, but never ever, not one second, did I suspect the right person. I love how Roz, in a way, is a step ahead of the reader. She already has a suspicion while the reader is still convinced they are focusing on the right person!

I also really liked how the story was told. Without knowing who the murderer is, you learn what they are thinking and what their motives and intentions are. I also like that you get an idea of what other characters are feeling and not only Roz’s perspective.

I was expecting regular a thriller, nothing special, but I really loved how this book tells a nerve wracking murder mystery while raising awareness for sexual assault and harassment. I personally think that speaking up abut this is really really important, since victims often can’t find peace, because the perpetrators are acquitted many times still.
